In search of MEB, call me <3
Holy shit, she’s aggressive. Colin snorted. “Wow.”
“What’s MEB mean?” Matt asked.
“Most eligible bachelor or in this case, bachelorette. I asked her when she told me you were considered an MEB.”
Matt groaned. “Not good.”
“Well, she’s right. You are handsome.” He’d aged well and had a good heart. Matt deserved to be with someone—hopefully Colin.
“I didn’t know there was a name for the middle-aged teacher without a partner.”
Colin shrugged. “You can remedy it. Find another MEB and check the box for taken.” He hoped he looked more confident than he felt. “She didn’t ask if I was with you. She thought we were just friends.”
“We are friends.”
“True.” But he wanted to be more.
“I’m surprised she didn’t come on to you. You’re better-looking,” Matt said.
“Please.” He rolled his eyes. “You’re handsome. You tick my boxes.”
“Colin.”
“You know, I love when you say my name.” Colin leaned into Matt. “It’s sexy.”
Matt slid his palm over Colin’s thigh. “I know I’m confused and running hot and cold, but I want to kiss you.”
“You do?”
Matt nodded.
“To change your relationship status?” Colin asked. He had to be sure.
“No.” Matt blushed from his hairline to his collar. “I’ve wanted to kiss you since I saw you again.”
“We have a strange magnetism, don’t we?” He needed to find the right balance of desire and concern. He inched closer to Matt. “Maybe we should practice more. You know…kiss more. Learn more about each other.”
“We should.” Matt’s eyes flashed. “Should give each other a chance.”
“Why not?” Colin asked, his mouth a whisper from Matt’s lips. “We might realize we’re good together.”
“Still?”
“Uh-huh.” He kissed Matt and stroked his cheek. “How about we make nightly dates for the dog park? See where this goes and relearn each other?”
“Yes.” Matt kissed him. “But go slow.”
“Agreed.” He feathered his mouth over Matt’s, then moved his hand to the back of Matt’s neck. “I miss being us.”
“I do too.”
Thank you, God. Colin rested his forehead against Matt’s. “It’ll make Friday night sweeter.”
Matt brushed his nose along Colin’s. “If we end up under a blanket together…”
“Then hooray for us.” He punctuated the sentence with another kiss.
“I’m in.”
“So am I.” For the long haul.
